Erling Haaland has been formally recognised as a record-breaker in four separate categories, receiving Guinness World Records certificates at the Etihad Stadium ahead of the new season.

The Manchester City striker currently stands at 162 goals in 198 appearances for the club, while his 62 goals in 55 international matches make him Norway’s all-time leading scorer. The four certificates place official stamps on achievements that have defined one of the most prolific runs in modern football.

Haaland’s first certificate recognises the most goals scored in a single Champions League match. His five-goal haul in City’s 7-0 demolition of RB Leipzig in the last 16 in March 2023 equals a record he shares with Lionel Messi — who struck five in Barcelona’s 7-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen in March 2012 — and Shakhtar Donetsk’s Luiz Adriano, who matched the feat in a 7-0 thrashing of BATE Borisov in October 2014.

The second award covers international football, where Haaland holds the record for the most goals scored in the UEFA Nations League. His tally of 19 sits four clear of Cristiano Ronaldo and Aleksandar Mitrovic, the next highest scorers in the competition’s history.

His third certificate acknowledges the most goals in a Premier League season. The 36 he scored in his debut campaign in 2022/23 surpassed the long-standing shared record of 34 held by Andy Cole — set with Newcastle United across 42 games in 1993/94 — and Alan Shearer, who matched it for Blackburn Rovers the same season.

The fourth and final record is for the fastest player to reach 100 Premier League goals. A strike against Fulham last December brought up the milestone in just 111 games, beating Shearer’s previous mark by 13 matches.

Beyond these individual records, Haaland’s goals have contributed to six major trophies for City since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022, including the Treble in 2022/23. He also scored seven times in five matches at World Cup 2026 as Norway reached the quarter-finals. His individual honours include three Premier League Golden Boots in four seasons, the European Golden Shoe in 2022/23, and six consecutive Norwegian Footballer of the Year awards.

Haaland also features on the cover of the Guinness World Records Football Edition 2027. He is set to open the new domestic season when City face Arsenal in the Community Shield on Sunday.
