OM Awaits €50M Saudi Offer for Igor Paixao Before Transfer Window Closes
Signed for €30 million last summer, Brazilian winger Igor Paixao could leave Olympique de Marseille before the end of the summer transfer window. Owner Franck McCourt has reportedly set his asking price at €50 million.
Olympique de Marseille is expecting to receive an offer from a Saudi club for Igor Paixao before the transfer market closes, according to Foot Mercato. The club’s owner, Franck McCourt, has reportedly set the asking price for the Brazilian winger at €50 million.
Signed last summer for €30 million, the 26-year-old Paixao was one of OM’s standout players during the summer preparation period. Despite this status, the Marseille club, forced to sell to balance its finances, does not rule out a departure if a proposal matching its demands materializes.
The matter illustrates the delicate situation facing OM at the end of the transfer window: obliged to sell important players to shore up its coffers, the club must nevertheless defend the value of its assets. By setting the price at €50 million, a €20 million profit on the amount paid a year ago, the OM board intends not to undersell one of its best attacking assets.
No formal offer has yet been submitted at this stage, but Marseille’s management anticipates a concrete approach in the final days of the summer window.
