Cristiano Ronaldo confirmed to Vogue that the 2026-2027 season would very likely be his last as a professional footballer. At 41, the Al Nassr player spoke candidly about the imminent end of a career marked by five Ballon d’Or awards and five UEFA Champions League titles.

“It’s probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy,” said the Portuguese star. This announcement comes after his final World Cup appearance with Portugal this summer.

Far from dreading the void that retirement might leave in his life, Ronaldo insists he has anticipated life after football in meticulous detail. “I have so many things that will keep me busy, to the point that it’s hard to name just one. I’ve planned everything,” he explained. He notably mentions more travel and regular padel practice, a sport he says he particularly enjoys.

On the sporting front, two objectives structure this final season. Collectively, Ronaldo will seek to retain the Saudi Arabia championship title won with Al Nassr last season. Individually, he is chasing a historic milestone: 1,000 career goals. With 976 goals to his credit, he needs 24 more to reach this threshold he has set as his ultimate objective.
