Mbappé leaves Nike after twenty years to become shareholder of On

Kylian Mbappé has ended twenty years of collaboration with Nike to sign with On, the Swiss sportswear brand, becoming simultaneously ambassador and shareholder. The Real Madrid striker announced this change on Friday, the day after his confirmation as captain of the France national team.

The player from Bondy posted a public message to Nike to mark the break. “There are decisions that are harder to make than others. Nike has been part of my life since I was a child. I was seven years old when this story began,” he wrote on social media.

Mbappé traced the major milestones of a relationship forged long before his global fame. “For twenty years, Nike accompanied me at every stage: the child from Bondy, my beginnings, my first big matches, my victories, my defeats too, the France team, the World Cup.” He also paid tribute to colleagues he met over the years: “I will never forget everything Nike gave me; the people I met and all those who believed in me long before the world knew me.”

The 2018 World Cup champion concluded his message with a forward-looking tone. “Today, after twenty years together, our paths separate. But a story like that doesn’t disappear because it ends: it’s part of me.” Before adding: “I’ve always believed you have to have the courage to pursue your dreams. And like when I was a child… I still dream.”

By taking a stake in On’s capital, Mbappé goes beyond a simple sponsorship contract: he is entering the brand’s governance, a positioning that echoes arrangements adopted by other major sports stars who have chosen to invest in their commercial partners.
