Holmberg's stoppage-time equaliser denies Olid first win as Arsenal rescue WSL draw

Smilla Holmberg rescued Arsenal a share of the spoils in the 95th minute, heading in Leah Williamson’s deep cross to secure a 1-1 Women’s Super League draw against Manchester United and deny Eva Olid her first win as United manager.

United had frustrated Arsenal for long periods and looked set to claim a famous victory when Julia Zigiotti Olme capitalised on an under-hit pass from Georgia Stanway in the 67th minute, running clear to slot the ball through the legs of Misa Rodriguez. It was a lead United defended with discipline — until Holmberg arrived at the back post to convert and snatch a point Arsenal had barely deserved.

The result leaves Arsenal in fourth place after back-to-back draws, while United pick up their first point of the WSL campaign and climb off the foot of the table. For Olid, appointed to revive a United side that has struggled for consistency, the late concession will sting — but the performance offered genuine encouragement.

Elsewhere in the division, Chelsea moved to second place, two points behind leaders Manchester City, after a 2-0 win over Birmingham. Lexi Potter and Melvine Malard scored the goals as Chelsea continued their strong early-season form.

London City Lionesses sit third, a point further back, following a commanding 4-1 victory at promoted Charlton. Isobel Goodwin’s brace had the Lionesses two goals clear inside 15 minutes, and although Jodie Hutton pulled one back with a fine finish in the 39th minute, Jana Fernandez restored the advantage before half-time. German forward Nicole Anyomi wrapped up the win with a fourth goal in the 76th minute. Charlton, meanwhile, drop to last place following United’s draw.
