Jasudavicius stuns Blanchfield as heavy underdog to demand flyweight title shot
Jasmine Jasudavicius delivered one of the night's biggest upsets at UFC Edmonton on Saturday, dominating Erin Blanchfield across three rounds to earn a unanimous decision and immediately call out women's flyweight champion Natalia Silva.
Jasmine Jasudavicius silenced any doubters at UFC Edmonton on Saturday, overwhelming heavily favoured Erin Blanchfield across three rounds to earn a unanimous 29-28 decision in the co-main event — and wasted no time demanding a shot at the women’s flyweight title.
Entering the fight as a sizable underdog, the Canadian hometown fighter seized control from the opening minute. Jasudavicius secured a takedown in the first round and pinned Blanchfield in dominant positions on the mat, threatening a finish on multiple occasions from the back. The scorecards read 29-28, but the margin of control throughout the bout made the numbers look closer than the reality.
Blanchfield came out with far more urgency in the second round, looking to disrupt Jasudavicius’s rhythm on the feet. It made little difference. Jasudavicius powered her back to the canvas again, nearly stopping the fight on several occasions. Both opening rounds carried a credible argument for 10-8 scores given the one-sided nature of the grappling exchanges.
Knowing she needed a finish to survive, Blanchfield pressed forward in the third, landing on the feet with more success. Jasudavicius, however, showed no concern for the incoming shots, absorbing them without flinching before returning the fight to the ground and closing out a commanding victory.
Speaking after the win, Jasudavicius called for a rematch with new UFC women’s flyweight champion Natalia Silva, positioning herself as the division’s next logical contender following one of the most eye-catching performances of the Edmonton card.
