Parnasse eyes Usman Nurmagomedov after UFC Paris debut against Hooker

Salahdine Parnasse arrives at UFC Paris on Saturday carrying a five-fight win streak, a main-event slot against Dan Hooker, and ambitions that already stretch toward a showdown with Usman Nurmagomedov.

The Moroccan-French fighter, a former two-division KSW champion, makes his UFC debut as the headline act in front of his home crowd — a rapid rise that follows his first-round knockout of Kenneth Cross at the Rousey vs. Carano card in May. That performance triggered a bidding war among major promotions, but Parnasse said signing with the UFC was straightforward, particularly with a main event immediately on offer.

“It was amazing,” Parnasse told MMA Fighting. “It was great news for me and I just wanted to keep moving forward, so it was awesome.”

Nurmagomedov’s recent move to free agency has added an intriguing subplot to Parnasse’s debut week. Asked whether a fight with the former Bellator lightweight champion could materialise, Parnasse was measured but open. “I think it’s a possibility for sure, we’ll see,” he said.

First, however, comes Hooker — a veteran who has shared the octagon with Islam Makhachev and worked his way through much of the lightweight division’s upper tier. Parnasse views that experience as the ideal proving ground rather than a mismatch to navigate.

“Dan Hooker is a guy that has fought everyone. He’s a guy that’s super experienced,” Parnasse said. “I think it’s the perfect opponent.”

Bookmakers disagree on the competitive balance, listing Hooker as a significant underdog at as high as +440, with most analysts treating the bout as a showcase for Parnasse’s skills. A victory in highlight-reel fashion would immediately position the 27-year-old as a credible name in the star-laden lightweight division.

For now, Parnasse is keeping his focus narrow. “As of right now, this moment, I don’t have any names in my mind,” he said. “So we’ll have to see when I win on Saturday.”
