Kita ready to sell FC Nantes after 19 years and admission of failure

Waldemar Kita has officially confirmed he is ready to sell FC Nantes. In an interview with Presse-Océan, the Franco-Polish president-owner, in position for 19 years, acknowledged his failure at the helm of the Canaries, now relegated to Ligue 2.

« I’m starting my 20th year. I’m asking myself a lot of questions about myself. Something isn’t right. Maybe I’m not made for this », he confided, adding: « Today or tomorrow, it may be important that I step aside. »

Kita indicates he has received three takeover proposals, while denying the involvement of British investment funds, contrary to some reports circulating in recent weeks. He clarifies that he cannot go into details due to confidentiality clauses.

The businessman, who prides himself on his success in commercial activities, concedes that football is a different field. « The results speak for themselves. I don’t need criticism to judge myself. I’m being self-critical. So maybe I’m not fit to do it », he said regarding the presidency of a professional club.

Still, Kita is not imposing any deadline. « I’m not in a hurry by a month or two, or even a year. I’m not pressed. What I want is for it to be done properly », he specified, suggesting that the sale process could drag on over time.

Arrived at Nantes in 2007, Kita will have gone through two relegations to Ligue 2, a Coupe de France won in 2022, and numerous sporting and institutional upheavals. Relegation confirmed at the end of the 2024-2025 season appears to have been the breaking point that convinced him to step aside.
