Ivan Toney entered a not guilty plea at Southwark Crown Court on Thursday to a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, with a provisional trial date set for June 12, 2028. The England striker and Al-Ahli forward is accused of headbutting and punching Saber Da Silva during a confrontation at a nightclub on Wardour Street, central London, on December 6, 2024.
The 30-year-old appeared at court at around 9.10am and the hearing lasted approximately five minutes. Judge Christopher Hehir set the 2028 trial date and acknowledged the significant delay, telling Toney he was “sorry” about the wait.
“That’s a long way in advance and I’m sorry about that,” Judge Hehir said. “As you may know, the crown courts are operating under a great deal of pressure. We have got a massive backlog of work for various reasons.”
Toney was released on unconditional bail following the brief hearing. He has denied the single charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The case will now proceed toward the June 2028 trial date at Southwark Crown Court, though as a provisional listing it remains subject to change.
