Kane plans lavish gifts for team-mates after becoming first Englishman to win Ballon d'Or since 2001
Harry Kane has promised to buy presents for his Bayern Munich and England team-mates following his Ballon d'Or victory, the first by an Englishman since Michael Owen in 2001. The 33-year-old striker beat Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal after a 73-goal campaign.
Harry Kane is set to spend a small fortune on gifts for his Bayern Munich and England team-mates after winning the Ballon d’Or, becoming the first Englishman to claim the award since Michael Owen’s triumph in 2001.
The 33-year-old striker beat Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal to the trophy, rewarding a remarkable 73-goal campaign last season. Speaking to BILD following the ceremony, Kane confirmed he intends to show his appreciation to those who helped him get there.
“Some of the guys have asked for watches or something similar – so I’ll have to come up with something nice for them, both at Bayern and with the England national team,” Kane said. “I’ll take care of it; I’ll definitely get everyone a nice present.”
Kane also reflected on the emotional weight of the occasion, describing it as unlike anything he has experienced on a football pitch. “A truly crazy week. What an unbelievable evening on Monday. Of course, there was a lot of nervousness involved – it was a completely different set of emotions than at a football match,” he said.
“There was a lot of waiting involved, and I kept imagining what it would be like if I actually won. But honestly, it was just something really special. The support I received from friends, family, and fans – through messages, on social media – was almost overwhelming. So many congratulations!”
He added that despite celebrating with those close to him after the ceremony, he was quickly back to focusing on football. “After that, of course, it was straight back to work – I’m still trying to process it all.”
The prospect of a knighthood was also raised with Kane, who acknowledged the honour but admitted the title would feel unusual. “It sounds good, but it would feel kind of strange if everyone called me Sir – so for now, I’ll just stick with Harry,” he said.
Kane has since returned to Germany, where he received a warm welcome from his Bayern squad. His England team-mates are also expected to celebrate with their captain when the next international break arrives.
