Algeria climbs to 28th in FIFA rankings, becomes third African nation
Unbeaten during the autumn international break — victory over Zambia (3-1), draw in Burundi (2-2) and friendly win against Niger (2-1) — Algeria gains two places in the FIFA rankings and rises to 28th in the world.
Algeria finishes the autumn international break at 28th in the FIFA rankings, a net gain of two places from its pre-gathering position, after three matches without defeat under Brahim Hemdani.
The Fennecs opened this international window with a convincing victory over Zambia (3-1) in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, before drawing with Burundi (2-2). This result against a lower-ranked opponent had temporarily cost Algeria a place, dropping them to 30th.
The friendly victory over Niger (2-1) on Tuesday evening in Tizi Ouzou allowed them to bounce back. Trailing on the scoreboard, Algeria turned the match around thanks to goals from Bachir Belloumi and Ramy Bensebaini, with Ibrahim Maza and his teammates concluding the break on a positive note.
On the continental stage, the balance sheet is equally encouraging: Algeria sits in third place in Africa, behind Morocco (7th worldwide) and Senegal (18th), and now ahead of Egypt (25th), Côte d’Ivoire (29th) and Nigeria (30th). The margin remains tight, however, with Côte d’Ivoire and Nigeria just one and two places behind the Fennecs respectively.
