Mikel Arteta has signed a new contract with Arsenal that runs until 2030, making him the highest-paid manager in the Premier League. The deal, whose precise value is closely guarded, is heavily bonus-related but could push Arteta towards £20 million a year with success — comfortably surpassing Nottingham Forest’s Oliver Glasner, who earns around £14 million including add-ons.

Arteta had entered the final year of his previous contract, but the extension rewards him for leading Arsenal to their first league title in 22 years. Having joined the club in December 2019, he will now pass a decade in charge at the Emirates — making him the longest-serving manager in the top flight by some distance. The new terms also fill the vacancy left by Pep Guardiola as the division’s best-compensated head coach, following Guardiola’s departure from Manchester City last summer.

“It’s a privilege to commit my future to the club and to continue to work with exceptional people who want the best for Arsenal,” Arteta said. “We have already built a special bond and created memories that will last a lifetime, and what is so exciting is that this is only the beginning of what we can achieve together. I’m extremely grateful to Stan and Josh for their trust and support, and feel honoured to be leading this club through such a special period in its 140-year history.”

Arsenal co-chairs Stan and Josh Kroenke welcomed the announcement, describing the relationship as a “special bond” built since Arteta’s arrival. “Last season was an incredible moment in Arsenal’s history. We’re determined to create many more in the years ahead,” they said, adding that Arteta “has a deep understanding of Arsenal’s values and carries them in his heart.”

CEO Richard Garlick framed the renewal as central to the club’s ambitions. “This is an important time in Arsenal Football Club’s history,” he said. “We want to create a winning era together with Mikel.”

The extension cements Arteta’s status as one of European football’s most coveted coaches after transforming Arsenal from mid-table inconsistency into genuine title contenders across three successive Premier League campaigns.
