Arteta signs new deal to lead Arsenal until 2030 after first title in 22 years
Mikel Arteta has committed his future to Arsenal by signing an improved contract through 2030, extending a tenure that already makes him the Premier League's longest-serving manager. The deal follows Arsenal's first league title in 22 years last season.
Mikel Arteta has signed an improved contract with Arsenal that will keep him at the club until 2030, the Premier League champions confirmed, extending a reign that began when he took charge in December 2019.
The new deal was agreed after Arteta entered the final 12 months of his previous contract. Should he see it out, the 44-year-old Spaniard will have spent 11 seasons at the Emirates Stadium — already the longest unbroken managerial tenure in the Premier League.
Arteta led Arsenal to their first top-flight title in 22 years last season, ending a run of three consecutive runners-up finishes under his management. He also guided the Gunners to the Champions League final in the same campaign, underlining a transformation of the club’s fortunes since his appointment.
“It’s a privilege to commit my future to the club and to continue to work with exceptional people who want the best for Arsenal,” Arteta said. “We have already built a special bond and created memories that will last a lifetime, and what is so exciting is that this is only the beginning of what we can achieve together.”
He added: “I feel the love and respect from our fantastic supporters, and they have mine — and ours — in return. I feel honoured to be leading this club through such a special period in its 140-year history.”
Co-chairs Josh and Stan Kroenke had signalled their intent to retain Arteta in May, with Josh Kroenke describing a new contract as an “utmost priority”. The ownership also confirmed at that time that they were exploring plans to renovate and expand the Emirates Stadium beyond its current 60,704 capacity.
“He has a deep understanding of Arsenal’s values and carries them in his heart,” the Kroenkes said in a joint statement. “We are so proud of everything we have achieved since he returned to the club in 2019, and we are determined to create many more memories in the years ahead.”
