Four days after crushing RC Lens 9-1 at Bollaert in the Champions League, Como came back down to earth on Sunday at San Siro: Inter Milan won 2-0 in the 11th round of Serie A, with Marcus Thuram as the principal architect.

The French striker, recalled to the France squad by Zinédine Zidane, influenced the entire match. As early as the 12th minute, he set up Djed Spence, whose cross finds Pio Esposito for the opening goal. Seven minutes later, Thuram turned goalscorer, converting a poorly cleared ball by Robert Sanchez — who started in goal for Como ahead of Jean Butez. In under 20 minutes, the defending Serie A champions had settled the matter.

Cesc Fabregas’s side never managed to turn the tide. Despite 58% possession, Como managed only one shot on target all evening — a strike from Nico Paz late in the match — from five total attempts by the Lombards. The gulf in class between the two teams proved far greater than the scoreline from Bollaert suggested.

In the standings, Inter climbs to second place and closes to within one point of Lazio, held to a draw at Naples (1-1). Como, meanwhile, sees the top group moving further away.
