Lille president 'very optimistic' about extending Ethan Mbappé's contract
With his contract expiring in June, Ethan Mbappé is at the centre of active negotiations with Lille. President Létang confirmed on Sunday that discussions are ongoing and expressed confidence in their outcome.
Lille president Olivier Létang confirmed on Sunday that negotiations are underway to extend Ethan Mbappé’s contract, which expires next June. The statement came following Lille’s 2-1 away victory at Rennes, which keeps the club in second place in Ligue 1.
“For Ethan, there are discussions taking place. We are in talks for the adventure to continue. I am very optimistic,” Létang said. The northern club’s executive is seeking to accelerate negotiations with the representatives of the 19-year-old midfielder, aware of his growing importance in the squad managed by Davide Ancelotti.
Formed at PSG, Ethan Mbappé joined Lille in July 2024 after signing his first professional contract, a three-year deal. Since his arrival, the left-footed youngster has made 45 appearances across all competitions in the red shirt, scoring five goals and providing two assists.
Kylian Mbappé’s younger brother has found impressive form after missing several weeks of competition due to a right ankle injury, as well as serving a suspension in the Ligue des Champions. His upturn in performance coincides with Lille’s strong run in the league, and his status as a French U-21 international makes him one of the key pieces in the club’s medium-term project.
The outcome of the negotiations remains to be confirmed, but Président Létang’s comments contrast sharply with the uncertainty that had previously surrounded the player’s future.
