Olympique de Marseille could finally strengthen this winter, after a summer transfer window without a single signing. According to Jean-François Pérès, editor-in-chief of the sports section at Journal du Dimanche, two to three profiles are already being targeted by the club and “are willing to join Marseille”.

Everything hinges, however, on one condition: the arrival of new investors alongside Frank McCourt. “Marseille hopes to announce good news before the DNCG hearing,” the journalist said, recalling the crucial deadline facing the club in December. He clarifies that McCourt would not be looking to sell in the medium term, but rather is considering opening the capital to external partners.

This capital injection would be key to allowing sporting director Grégory Lorenzi to pursue his targets. Having arrived in Marseille with the ambition to rebuild the squad, Lorenzi has reportedly seen his plans blocked by the club’s financial constraints. “The club must get out of the red this winter to be able to invest again,” Pérès summed up.

Despite these encouraging signals, the journalist tempers expectations: “At this point in time, all of this is very uncertain.” Head coach Bruno Genesio, who has been working with a limited squad since the start of the season, will have to wait a few more weeks to find out if reinforcements will really be granted to him in January.
