Vincent Kompany dislocated his shoulder when he collapsed during a Bayern Munich training session approximately five days ago, with doctors now ruling out a heart attack or stroke as the cause, according to reports from Bild.

The 40-year-old Belgian remains in hospital in Munich, where medical staff are investigating a potential brain issue. Bild also reports that Kompany suffered seizures following the fall, though the condition is not believed to be life-threatening. He was airlifted to hospital shortly after the incident and has been absent from the touchline since Bayern’s Champions League draw with Arsenal the previous week.

Bayern’s interim manager Aaron Danks offered a cautiously optimistic update on Tuesday. “It looks like he’s getting better every day. That’s positive. But there is no major news regarding his diagnoses or his return to work,” he said. Kompany is not expected back in the dugout for several weeks.

Harry Kane, who claimed the Ballon d’Or with Kompany as his manager at the Allianz Arena, revealed the Belgian had personally called him ahead of the award ceremony. “He actually phoned me, phoned me bright and early at 9am [Monday]. I was just out of bed thankfully, so I was able to answer it,” Kane said. “He just wanted to wish me all the best, good luck. I asked him how he was doing, he said he feels good, he feels like he’s on the mend.”

Kane added that Kompany’s competitive instincts remain intact despite his hospitalisation. “I know he’s the type of character who just wants to be back with the team already. He wants to be out on the training field with us, on the bench with us. But it’s important that he rests.”

Among those reported to have visited Kompany in hospital are Bayern president Herbert Hainer, sporting director Max Eberl, and honorary president Uli Hoeness.
