Tchouaméni rested, Valverde returns for Real Madrid against AEK
Aurélien Tchouaméni has been left out of Real Madrid's squad for the Champions League match against AEK Athens on Wednesday. Federico Valverde makes his return after a hamstring injury sustained during the Clásico.
Aurélien Tchouaméni will not travel to Athens. The French international midfielder has been excluded from the squad selected by José Mourinho for the fourth matchday of the Champions League against AEK Athens on Wednesday (18:45).
This decision comes as no surprise: the Portuguese manager had himself announced at the weekend his intention to rest the player. This will be Tchouaméni’s second consecutive Champions League match on the sidelines, having remained on the bench during the 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig on October 21. In La Liga, however, he has featured in all four of Real Madrid’s last matches, including the 0-3 away victory at Racing Santander on Sunday.
Aurélien Tchouaméni is not the only notable absence: Arda Güler has also not been selected for the trip to Greece. Rodrygo, still injured, is also missing.
The good news for Real Madrid concerns Federico Valverde. The Uruguayan international, who suffered a hamstring injury during the Clásico, makes his return to the squad and is in contention for a starting place against AEK. The rest of the squad is available: Thibaut Courtois, Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, Ibrahim Konaté and Yan Diomande are all included in the list.
