Sheffield Wednesday sack Henrik Pedersen after just 11 League One games
Sheffield Wednesday have dismissed manager Henrik Pedersen following back-to-back defeats by Notts County and Doncaster, leaving the Owls eighth in League One after a stuttering start to the season.
Sheffield Wednesday have sacked manager Henrik Pedersen after just 11 games of the League One season, with the club sitting eighth in the third tier following consecutive defeats to Notts County and Doncaster.
Sporting Director Simon Wilson confirmed the decision, thanking Pedersen for his “professionalism, commitment and contribution during an exceptionally challenging period” at the club, while acknowledging that the scale of change at Hillsborough had made for a difficult start to the campaign.
“Although we have accumulated points, we haven’t seen enough progress in those areas,” Wilson said, referring to the club’s desire to establish a recognisable style of play and greater consistency. “We believe making a change now gives us the best opportunity to establish those foundations and build towards the second half of the season and beyond.”
Wednesday’s ambitions clearly extend beyond a mid-table League One finish, with Wilson insisting the club remains focused on “building a Sheffield Wednesday team with a clear identity, capable of delivering sustained improvement and long-term success.”
Pedersen’s tenure ends after a brief and turbulent spell in charge, with the club yet to announce a successor.
