Deschamps to Real Madrid if Mourinho falls to Barcelona, says Moscato
Free since leaving the France national team, Didier Deschamps would be Florentino Perez's priority if José Mourinho is sacked. Broadcaster Vincent Moscato insists the former France coach "would run to take the job".
Didier Deschamps could land at Real Madrid if José Mourinho is dismissed following Sunday’s Clasico against FC Barcelona (21:00). According to Spanish media, the former France manager is Florentino Perez’s top choice should the “Special One” depart prematurely.
After fourteen years leading the French national team, Deschamps handed over to Zinedine Zidane following the 2026 World Cup. Now without a club, he is reportedly keen to return to the dugout quickly. His name has been circulating for several days in the Spanish capital, where a defeat to the Catalan rivals could hasten the end of Mourinho’s tenure.
Asked about this possibility, Vincent Moscato left no room for doubt. “Do I think Deschamps would say yes to replace Mourinho? Of course, he’s been doing nothing for three months. He would run to take it,” said the Moscato Show presenter. A blunt comment that sums up the supposed impatience of the former AS Monaco and Olympique de Marseille coach.
Moscato also weighed in on the Clasico itself. Despite the stakes for Madrid — “if they lose, it’s very difficult to come back” — he favours a Real Madrid victory, citing the psychological aftermath of Barcelona’s recent defeat in Paris. “I see a big performance from Mbappé. The defeat in Paris for Barcelona could have left its mark,” he said, before adding: “But if Mourinho concedes 4-0…”, trailing off, implying that the worst-case scenario could accelerate everything.
Mourinho’s fate on the Madrid bench, and Deschamps’ prospects in the coming weeks, could largely be decided at Camp Nou on Sunday evening.
