Sesko signals return to fitness after shin injury cut short his debut Man United season
Benjamin Sesko has posted on Instagram that he is back in preparation after a shin injury ruled him out of Manchester United's final three Premier League matches. The Slovenian striker scored 11 league goals in his first season at Old Trafford following his £73m move from RB Leipzig.
Benjamin Sesko appears to have recovered from the shin injury that ended his debut Manchester United season early, posting on Instagram that he is “Rested. Refreshed. Back to preparing for the season.”
The Slovenian forward, who joined the club from RB Leipzig for £73 million last summer, picked up the injury during United’s 3-2 Premier League victory over Liverpool at the start of May and missed the club’s final three league fixtures as a result.
Sesko finished his first campaign at Old Trafford with 11 Premier League goals — a respectable return for a player still adapting to English football at 21 years of age.
The forward had been linked with a move to Barcelona, but according to reports, Sesko is expected to take on a more prominent role in his second season under new manager Michael Carrick.
Former United defender Gary Pallister, who won four league titles at Old Trafford, has welcomed Carrick’s appointment but suggested the club should look to add a more experienced striker alongside Sesko this summer.
“I think they maybe need another centre-forward,” Pallister said. “Sesko did alright last year, but I think he’s still got a bit to learn as he’s still a young kid. I think someone with a bit more maturity than Sesko would be ideal for the centre-forward slot to fight with him for the position.”
Pallister also reflected on the end of Ruben Amorim’s tenure, saying the Portuguese coach “just lost his way and, honestly, almost welcomed the sack,” while expressing optimism about Carrick’s ability to restore a sense of identity to the club.
“Michael’s come in and he’s got good results. I think he’s brought a resilience into the team. I think he knows what United fans want,” Pallister added.
