Lyon and AS Roma have reached a preliminary agreement for the transfer of Malick Fofana, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano. The Belgian winger, valued at €40 million, has also worked through his agents on the terms of a contract with the Roman club. The Giallorossi have not yet made an official offer.

This deal fits into Lyon’s financial strategy, which is seeking to bolster its coffers after already selling Afonso Moreira to Bayer Leverkusen two months ago for €33.6 million. The potential sale of Fofana would represent an even larger operation, exceeding by nearly €7 million the amount obtained for the young Portuguese defender.

Despite the sporting loss it would represent — Fofana has established himself as one of the most electrifying elements of Lyon’s squad — the OL board appears to have decided in favour of a transfer. The agreement reached between the two clubs represents a decisive step forward, even if final completion remains contingent on the submission of an official offer by Roma.

The capital’s Italian club is also pursuing other targets in this transfer window, including Porto prospect Rodrigo Mora, which could influence the timeline and finalization of the Fofana deal.
