Manchester United open contract talks with Fernandes after Galatasaray's £17m approach
Manchester United have entered contract negotiations with captain Bruno Fernandes after Galatasaray reportedly offered the Portugal midfielder £17 million. Club sources insist Fernandes is not available at any price and wants to remain at Old Trafford.
Manchester United have opened contract negotiations with captain Bruno Fernandes after Galatasaray reportedly tabled a £17 million offer for the Portugal international, with club sources making clear he is not for sale at any price.
Fernandes, whose current deal expires at the end of this season, is said to want to stay at Old Trafford. United hold an option to extend his contract by a further year, and the player last put pen to paper on a new deal two years ago this month.
Despite the Turkish club’s approach, United’s position appears unambiguous: Fernandes will not be made available in the summer transfer window regardless of the fee on the table. The club’s willingness to open fresh negotiations underlines how central the 30-year-old remains to their plans under Ruben Amorim.
Fernandes has been one of United’s most consistent performers since joining from Sporting CP in January 2020, accumulating more than 150 goal contributions in all competitions and taking on the captaincy. Losing him on a free transfer at the end of the season — or to a rival now — would represent a significant blow to a club already navigating a turbulent rebuild.
Galatasaray’s interest signals the level of attention Fernandes continues to attract across Europe, but United’s swift response suggests they have no intention of allowing the situation to drift toward an uncertain conclusion.
