Giroud suffers leg injury, but LOSC examinations reassuring ahead of restart
Substituted due to injury during the warm-up match against Everton (1-1), Olivier Giroud underwent further examinations on Monday. The results are benign, but the Lille striker could miss the opening day of Ligue 1 against Angers.
Olivier Giroud has suffered no serious injury following the left leg impact sustained Saturday during LOSC’s warm-up match against Everton (1-1). Lille announced on Monday that further examinations reveal “reassuring results”, with the consequences of the impact deemed “benign”.
The LOSC statement specifies that the 38-year-old striker “does not require prolonged unavailability” and will resume individual training from Tuesday, before a gradual reintegration with the group. His recovery trajectory therefore remains favorable, but the schedule is tight.
Giroud should nevertheless arrive too late for the opening day of Ligue 1, Sunday at Angers. Davide Ancelotti, LOSC’s new head coach, should take no risks with his striker, recruited this summer after a career in MLS.
The former France international, who earned 123 caps with the Blues, is playing his first season in Lille colors after his departure from Los Angeles FC. His potential absence at Angers would force Ancelotti to reshape his attack from the start of the championship.
