Real Madrid seal €3m deal for Racing Santander teenager Sergio Martínez
Real Madrid have agreed a €3 million deal to sign Racing de Santander midfielder Sergio Martínez, 19, who scored on his side's return to La Liga this season. The teenager will join Real Madrid Castilla, with the transfer expected to be finalised after this weekend.
Real Madrid have closed the signing of Racing de Santander midfielder Sergio Martínez for around €3 million, with the deal expected to be formally completed after this weekend, according to Fichajes.
Martínez, 19, was one of the early standout stories of the new La Liga season, scoring as Racing de Santander marked their return to the top flight. He had already accumulated 13 first-team appearances for the Cantabrian club late last season before attracting interest from several of Spain’s biggest clubs.
FC Barcelona and Villarreal were also reported to have been tracking the midfielder, but Real Madrid’s move proved decisive in shaping his next step.
Martínez will initially be registered with Real Madrid Castilla, the club’s reserve side, as he begins life at the Santiago Bernabéu. Fichajes report that he will also have opportunities to train with the first team under José Mourinho.
The remaining formality is the completion of the approximately €3 million transfer, which is expected to go through following this weekend’s fixtures.
