Barcelona report PSG to UEFA over chainsaw tifo after 4-2 Champions League defeat
Barcelona have filed a complaint with UEFA after PSG fans displayed a tifo depicting a masked figure sawing apart the Barça badge before Tuesday's Champions League clash at the Parc des Princes, which PSG won 4-2.
Barcelona have reportedly lodged a formal complaint with UEFA over a tifo displayed by PSG supporters before their Champions League league-phase meeting at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday, which the French side won 4-2.
Before kick-off, one end of the stadium was covered by a giant banner showing a figure in a PSG shirt, wearing a mask and holding a chainsaw, cutting apart the Barcelona badge. Pyrotechnics were used to mimic the sparks of the blade, and the display carried the words “Massacre, A La Parisienne” — translated as “Massacre, Parisian style.” A club source told ESPN the tifo was “overly aggressive and offensive.”
On the pitch, Hansi Flick’s side arrived in Paris on an 11-game winning streak but were outplayed by the defending champions. Désiré Doué opened the scoring from the edge of the box before Xavi Espart equalised, blasting through Matvey Safonov’s gloves. Lucas Hernández then headed PSG back in front from a corner, only for Lamine Yamal to level with a moment of individual brilliance.
PSG ultimately took control in the second half. Vitinha smashed into the bottom corner to make it 3-2, and Fabián Ruiz tapped in a fourth at the back post to seal the points. The result lifted PSG to the top of the Champions League table with three wins from three games, while Barcelona drop to fifth after suffering their first defeat of the campaign.
“I think it was a fantastic game from both teams,” Flick said after the match. “We made too many mistakes, especially in ball possession, easy ball losses. This is what we have to analyse. But I saw a lot of good things also. For me it was a great test for us. You saw today in which areas we have to improve.”
PSG manager Luis Enrique, facing his former club, was full of praise for his players. “What I loved is how the players were capable of playing a sensational first half defensively, winning a lot of balls with the high press and creating chances to score more goals,” he said. “And then we overcame difficult moments in the second half when Barça had 15 minutes when they dominated and were better. But we are a team that adapts to whatever happens on the pitch.”
