Ousmane Dembélé left the pitch in the 18th minute of Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-2 victory over FC Barcelona on Tuesday evening during the third matchday of the Champions League. Initial examinations revealed a left hamstring muscle injury, with his absence estimated at two or three matches, according to L’Équipe.

The French forward was injured following an acceleration in midfield, immediately holding the back of his left thigh. Aware he could not continue, he signaled to the bench and was replaced by Ferran Torres, who remained on the sideline for the rest of the match. Further examinations scheduled for Wednesday are expected to clarify the exact grade of the injury and establish the official duration of his unavailability.

Dembélé’s injury is not the only cause for concern in the Paris camp. Marquinhos and Khvitcha Kvaratskhelia also had to leave the field in the second half, with the Georgian’s case raising the most serious fears: a torn anterior cruciate ligament is being discussed.

This fresh medical alert comes at a particular moment for the French international. Luis Enrique had rested him twice since the resumption to preserve his physical freshness, and Dembélé had just made a strong substitute appearance against Strasbourg (3-1) last weekend. His management remains delicate, between a recent trip to the United States and his desire to regain his best form by playing consecutive matches.

Despite this concerning medical situation, PSG confirms its status as Champions League favourite. The victory over Barcelona, a week after the one secured in Manchester, places the Paris club among the most formidable teams in the competition.
