Rashford opens up on United career regrets and debut memories in leaked fan Q&A
Marcus Rashford spoke publicly for the first time since returning from Barcelona, taking part in a Q&A with Manchester United supporters at Old Trafford before Tuesday's Europa League clash with Roma. The forward reflected on his 138 United goals, his iconic debut brace against Arsenal, and how overnight fame changed his life.
Marcus Rashford broke his public silence at Old Trafford on Tuesday, addressing Manchester United supporters in a Q&A session held before the Europa League tie with Roma — his first public appearance since Barcelona opted against making his loan move permanent last summer.
The 29-year-old spoke to fans in the Ambassadors’ Lounge as part of a premium hospitality package, which includes seats one row behind the United dugout, a five-course meal, behind-the-scenes access, and a live question-and-answer session with a host before supporters were invited to ask their own questions. The package is listed on United’s official website at around £2,500.
Rashford, who missed a fourth consecutive match on Tuesday as he continues to recover from hip and thigh injuries, appeared relaxed throughout the session. When asked about his 138 goals for the club, he said he remembers every one — but admitted his United career had not gone the way he had originally envisioned.
“I expected my United career to go differently to how it did,” Rashford told the audience. “Initially I wanted to try and get as close as possible to Wazza’s record, but it’s not the way it worked out — but I definitely remember the goals I scored.”
Rashford also reflected on the night his life changed: his debut against Arsenal at Old Trafford, when he scored twice. “I still think to this day I couldn’t describe my feelings,” he said. “My life pretty much just changed instantly. The month before those games, I could still go to the arcade at the Trafford Centre with my friends after the cinema. The next time we tried to go after that, it was just impossible.”
The audio of the session was subsequently leaked, giving a wider audience its first extended look at Rashford’s state of mind since his return to the club. Having largely stayed out of the media spotlight in recent years, the appearance offered a rare and candid glimpse into how the forward reflects on a career that has been defined by both early brilliance and a turbulent few seasons.
