Létang suspended four months after criticizing refereeing in Lille-PSG draw
The FFF appeals commission increased the initial sanction against Lille president Olivier Létang on Thursday, imposing a six-month suspension with two months suspended for his comments on refereeing after the 2-2 draw against PSG on August 28.
Lille president Olivier Létang is suspended from all official duties until early March 2027. The French Football Federation (FFF) appeals commission handed down a six-month suspension on Thursday evening, with two months suspended, meaning four months in effect, in response to his public criticism of refereeing after the 2-2 draw between Lille and PSG on August 28.
The penalty represents a significant increase from the initial ruling. In the first instance, the Professional Football League (LFP) disciplinary commission had settled for a fine of €20,000, which the appeals commission upheld. It was the FFF executive committee itself, judging the initial verdict too lenient, that appealed the decision.
Lille reacted quickly, announcing its intention to contest the sanction. “Olivier Létang takes note of the decision. We deplore it and will pursue all necessary avenues of appeal,” the northern club said, questioning “the true motivation behind this sanction.” As president of the Ligue 1 college within the LFP, Létang has the option of appealing to the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) to contest this new ruling.
