9-1 defeat to Como: Lens in open crisis after Champions League humiliation
Crushed at home 9-1 by Como in the fourth matchday of the Champions League league phase, RC Lens faces severe internal tensions. Players and staff are under scrutiny.
RC Lens suffered one of the heaviest defeats in its European competition history on Wednesday evening, losing 9-1 at home to Como in the fourth matchday of the Champions League league phase. At the final whistle, confusion and anger reigned in the Artois dressing room.
According to RMC Sport, the atmosphere was particularly heavy after the debacle. Several players are seeking explanations, while others are beginning to point fingers at responsibilities. A senior figure in the dressing room did not hide his assessment, believing that “some don’t have the level”.
The coaching staff is also under fire. Yannick Cahuzac is notably being criticized internally for his tactical choices: several players believe that adjustments should have been made much earlier in the match. From the second or third goal conceded, some would have liked to see a reaction from the bench to try to stem the bleeding.
Lens will have little time to digest this dark evening. They host Marseille this Sunday, a match that already takes on particular significance in their attempt to regain some stability.
