Maresca faces media amid City's summer upheaval as Savinho and Marmoush near Spurs exits
Enzo Maresca addresses the press ahead of Manchester City's Premier League opener against Bournemouth on Sunday, with Savinho's £75m move to Tottenham close to completion and Omar Marmoush also attracting Spurs interest alongside injury concerns over Jeremy Doku and Matheus Nunes.
Enzo Maresca faces the media on Friday afternoon ahead of Manchester City’s Premier League opener against AFC Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, with the new head coach set to field questions on a turbulent summer that has already seen Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders leave the club.
Savinho appears to be the next player out of the door after it emerged on Friday that Tottenham Hotspur had agreed a £75m deal for the winger. Omar Marmoush, who picked up a knock during City’s midweek fixture in Cardiff, is also attracting interest from Spurs, adding further uncertainty to City’s attacking options ahead of the season opener.
Maresca will also be pressed on the fitness of Jeremy Doku and Matheus Nunes, both of whom sustained issues during last weekend’s defeat to Arsenal. The extent of those injuries remains unclear, and their availability for Sunday’s match against Bournemouth is in doubt.
The press conference marks one of Maresca’s first major public appearances since taking charge following Pep Guardiola’s departure in May. The Italian inherits a squad in transition: Bernardo Silva and John Stones are among the senior figures who have also moved on this summer, while Phil Foden, Josko Gvardiol, Abdukodir Khusanov, and Jeremy Doku have all signed new contracts. Elliot Anderson has arrived in a significant transfer, and Erling Haaland remains the focal point of City’s attack.
Sunday’s home fixture against Bournemouth will be Maresca’s first competitive match in charge at the Etihad, and questions about his ambitions and targets for the 2026/27 campaign are expected to feature alongside the more immediate concerns around departures and fitness.
