Kane reveals he played golf with Trump after US President called him a 'GREAT player'
Harry Kane has confirmed he played a round of golf with Donald Trump roughly 18 months ago in Palm Beach, Florida. The revelation came days after Trump publicly praised the England striker's performance in a 3-2 World Cup win over Mexico.
Harry Kane confirmed at a pre-match press conference ahead of England’s World Cup quarter-final against Norway that he played a round of golf with US President Donald Trump approximately 18 months ago in Palm Beach, Florida.
The disclosure followed Trump’s social media post on Sunday in which the President called Kane “a GREAT player” after the Bayern Munich striker scored and assisted in England’s 3-2 victory over co-hosts Mexico at the Azteca. Trump then went further the following day, publicly acknowledging the previously undisclosed golf outing.
“I think Kane is a great player,” Trump said. “See, I played golf with him and I like him a lot. He’s a good golfer. He’s really great.”
Kane, speaking to reporters, described the experience as one he was unlikely to forget. “He invited me to play when I was down in Palm Beach. So when the President invites you somewhere…” the 32-year-old said. “It was a pretty surreal experience just to meet him, and to play golf with him. His golf is pretty good, to be honest. I played alright.”
The England captain added with a laugh: “I hope I can play golf as well as him when I’m his age, that’s for sure. So, [it was] a unique experience. I’m just grateful he invited me down to play.”
Kane’s growing international profile has been one of the more notable side effects of his move from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich. The striker has delivered the most prolific season of his career in Germany, winning both the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal with the Bavarian club.
On the pitch in the United States, Kane’s tournament has been eventful. Against Mexico he opened his account for the competition, contributed an assist, and also conceded a penalty — all in the same match. England now face Norway in the quarter-finals.
