Henderson fracture and Quansah ban leave England short for Norway World Cup quarter-final
Jordan Henderson will miss the rest of the tournament after fracturing his wrist, while Jarell Quansah serves the first game of a two-match ban. England do receive a boost, however, with Declan Rice, Marc Guehi, and Reece James all returning to full training.
Jordan Henderson and Jarell Quansah will both miss England’s 2026 World Cup quarter-final against Norway at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Saturday, July 11, as Thomas Tuchel’s squad navigates a mixed injury picture ahead of the last-eight tie.
Henderson fractured his wrist during goal celebrations in England’s group-stage victory over Mexico and has been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament. The veteran midfielder’s absence removes one of Tuchel’s most experienced options from midfield at a critical stage of the competition.
Quansah compounds the defensive headache. The centre-back received a red card against Mexico and will serve the first match of a two-game ban, leaving Tuchel short at the back against a Norway side that has already beaten Brazil in this tournament.
The news is not all negative for England. Declan Rice, Marc Guehi, and Reece James all returned to full team training on Friday after recovering from illness and minor injury niggles, handing Tuchel a significant boost to his first-choice options across midfield and defence.
Norway, meanwhile, have dealt with their own fitness concerns. Manager Ståle Solbakken confirmed a sickness bug spread through the squad following their victory over Brazil, with Jørgen Strand Larsen missing their opening game with a fever. Norway’s team doctor Ola Sand told Norwegian outlet Nettavisen that “all players are healthy now” and that there is “very little fuss, considering that we have been close together for almost six weeks.”
There is also a potential weather complication to monitor. Severe thunderstorms and heavy tropical moisture are forecast for Miami around kick-off, and Hard Rock Stadium safety protocols require mandatory match delays if lightning is detected within an eight-mile radius.
