Evra says Shaw's time at United 'has gone' as Arsenal weigh Rashford loan

Patrice Evra has publicly declared that Luke Shaw’s time at Manchester United “has gone”, as the club navigates a busy final stretch of the transfer window ahead of Tuesday’s deadline — with Arsenal now emerging as a potential destination for Marcus Rashford.

Evra, speaking on his Kick stream, was critical of Shaw’s performance in United’s recent trip to Hull, pointing to a pattern of injury-disrupted seasons that he believes has left the 30-year-old mentally scarred. “He’s been at the club for years, he’s had a lot of injuries that killed his football career,” Evra said. “When I talk with him, he’s still traumatised by [the injuries], he wouldn’t go 100 per cent into every challenge. I think his time has gone.”

The former United left-back was careful to acknowledge his affection for Shaw, adding that a run of 35 games in a season would represent a good return — but argued the club cannot afford to rely on that happening. Shaw is entering the final 12 months of his contract, and United’s search for a left-back option has so far drawn a blank, with Newcastle refusing to sell longstanding target Lewis Hall.

On the other side of the squad equation, Rashford’s future remains unresolved despite his reintegration into Ruben Amorim’s first-team plans. The forward turned down a move to Fenerbahce earlier in the window, but fresh interest has now surfaced from Arsenal, who are looking for cover after Gabriel Martinelli’s departure to the Saudi Pro League. According to the Independent, the Premier League champions are considering a loan approach for Rashford, which would see them absorb the majority of his £325,000-per-week wages.

Whether United would sanction a third loan spell for the academy graduate is uncertain. There is also reported contact between Barcelona and Rashford’s representatives, according to TeamTalk, though the Catalan club declined to make his previous loan move permanent at the end of last season.

United have otherwise made meaningful progress in midfield this window, completing the signings of Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos, and Youri Tielemans. The left-back position, however, remains the outstanding concern as the club prepares to host Ipswich Town in their opening home fixture of the Premier League season.
