Manchester City have committed over £160m in incoming transfers this summer, with the window still 50 days from its September 1 deadline, as Pep Guardiola’s squad undergoes one of its most significant overhauls in recent years.

The headline move came in early July when Elliot Anderson joined from Nottingham Forest for £116m, making him one of the most expensive signings in the club’s history. Anderson arrives as a proven Premier League midfielder and represents City’s clearest statement of intent this window.

City also brought in Mathys Detourbet from affiliate club Troyes for £21m, though the 2026/27 season will see him loaned straight out to AS Monaco. Goalkeeper Pierce Charles returned to the Etihad for £3m — a fee that could rise to £10m — having originally left the club at 16. He will spend next season on loan at Queens Park Rangers. The club’s second EFL-focused signing followed last week, with 17-year-old Jeremy Monga arriving from Leicester for £10m, potentially rising to £12.5m.

On the other side of the ledger, City have lost several long-serving figures. John Stones and Bernardo Silva both departed at the end of their contracts, with Silva joining Real Madrid. Defender Manuel Akanji completed a permanent £13m move to Inter Milan after spending last season on loan at the San Siro, while Nathan Ake was sold to Fenerbahce for £7m, a fee that could climb to £8.5m.

Young defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey made his switch to FC Köln permanent for £4.7m, rising to a potential £6.4m, and Isaac Smith joined Barnsley for an undisclosed fee. Goalkeeper Oliver Whatmuff has joined Stockport County on loan until the end of the season, while Ezra Carrington and Ashton Muir have left on free transfers.

With the window open until September 1, City’s business is far from finished — though the framework of a substantially rebuilt squad is already taking shape.
