Amorim eyes Mazraoui reunion at AC Milan as Man United hold firm on 2028 contract
Ruben Amorim is reportedly keen to sign Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui at AC Milan, though no talks have taken place and the Moroccan remains contracted at Old Trafford until 2028.
Ruben Amorim is targeting a reunion with Manchester United right-back Noussair Mazraoui at AC Milan, according to journalist Matteo Moretto, who reported the interest via Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel. The former United manager took charge at the San Siro earlier this summer and has identified the 27-year-old Moroccan as a priority target.
Despite the reported interest, no formal talks have taken place between the two clubs. Mazraoui is under contract at Old Trafford until the summer of 2028, with United also holding an option to extend that deal by a further season — a significant obstacle to any potential move.
Amorim’s attraction to Mazraoui is said to centre on his versatility. Milan are expected to operate in a 3-4-2-1 system — the same formation Amorim deployed during his time at United — and Mazraoui’s ability to function across multiple positions in that shape makes him an appealing fit for the Rossoneri.
Any departure would represent a blow to interim United head coach Michael Carrick, who has spoken warmly about the defender. Mazraoui returned from the Africa Cup of Nations last season having helped Morocco reach the final, and Carrick was quick to praise his attitude and impact upon his return.
“Yeah he’s come back well, Nous,” Carrick said. “It was a difficult one, obviously, on the back of the final and how it panned out. A few days to digest that then back in and around it. He’s been fantastic in and around the group and around training. So yeah, again just keep thickening the squad, bolstering the squad — it’s great to have him back.”
With Mazraoui firmly in Carrick’s plans and United holding considerable contractual leverage, any move to Milan this summer would require a significant shift in the current picture.
