Curtis Jones agrees Inter Milan contract as Liverpool prepare to sell below €40m
Curtis Jones has agreed personal terms with Inter Milan and is pushing to leave Liverpool, with intermediaries working to bring the Italian champions' valuation demands below €40 million before the transfer window closes.
Curtis Jones has agreed a contract with Inter Milan and is actively pushing for a move away from Liverpool, according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport relayed by Sport Witness. Intermediaries are working to close the gap in valuations, with confidence growing that Liverpool will accept a fee below €40 million for the midfielder.
Jones, 24, became an increasingly peripheral figure at Anfield last season under Arne Slot, who preferred Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch in central midfield behind new signing Florian Wirtz. Despite appearing 49 times across all competitions, Jones started only half of the Premier League matches he was named in the squad for.
The Liverpool-born midfielder first broke into the first team in 2018 and announced himself with a memorable long-range goal in the FA Cup Merseyside derby in January 2020, going on to become a regular under Jurgen Klopp. He reportedly came close to leaving in January, and his desire to play in Serie A has not changed, according to the report.
Inter, managed by Cristian Chivu, have identified Jones as their “ultimate transfer wish” this window, per Gazzetta dello Sport. The Serie A champions have already signed John Stones and Djed Spence from the Premier League this summer and are targeting a third English acquisition ahead of their Scudetto defence.
Transfermarkt values Jones at €35 million. The report indicates Inter plan to “move late” to complete the deal before the window shuts.
Liverpool, who finished fifth last season following Slot’s departure, are simultaneously pursuing attacking reinforcements in Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye. The club have already seen Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson leave this summer as Andoni Iraola begins reshaping the squad.
