Doué named best Parisian of the week, Chanot predicts a future among the world's elite

Désiré Doué has started the 2026-2027 season in impressive fashion: scorer and provider of a decisive assist against Aston Villa in the European Super Cup, then author of the most dangerous initiatives for Paris in the Champions Trophy against Lens, the 21-year-old winger is establishing himself as one of PSG’s in-form players.

For consultant Elton Mokolo, the verdict is clear: “Désiré Doué was the best player of the week, both against Aston Villa and against Lens, because when it was time to fight back, most of the chances came from his individual initiatives.” He sees in this season opener a sign of sustained improvement: “It’s his third season and he still has a lot to offer. In terms of positioning, he can be an even more important player.”

Maxime Chanot goes further. For the After Foot consultant, the number 14 of the Red and Blues possesses the qualities to join the world elite. “I like his evolution and his mentality. Signing for PSG and being coached by Luis Enrique, I think that was the best thing possible for him. In one-on-one situations, he is exceptional, he’s perhaps the best dribbler in the French league.”

Chanot tempers his enthusiasm with a tactical requirement: “Perhaps he needs to simplify his game. Now, when you have talent like his, don’t you want to give him the right to enjoy himself? It can be frustrating, but if he manages to refine his game, he will become one of the best players in the world — and he’s already not far from it.”

The consultant concludes on a win-win equation: “PSG has everything to gain from having a great Désiré Doué, and Désiré Doué has everything to gain from putting himself at the service of the collective.” Now in his third year at the club, the former Rennes player is approaching this season with the status of key player in a squad aiming for European glory.
