Tchouaméni back in time to launch Real Madrid's La Liga season
Absent from all summer preparation due to muscle pain, Aurélien Tchouaméni has recovered and is called up for Real Madrid's trip to Barcelona against Espanyol, the first La Liga match on Saturday.
Aurélien Tchouaméni has recovered and will be included in Real Madrid’s squad for the trip to Barcelona on Saturday (21:30), where the Merengues face Espanyol in the opening match of the 2026-2027 La Liga season. Spanish media Marca confirmed the news on Tuesday.
Troubled by muscle pain since returning from post-World Cup vacation, the French international midfielder had missed all warm-up matches, training away from the group for several weeks. His return to collective training marks the end of a period of uncertainty that had also fueled questions about his future at the club.
His presence in the squad does not, however, guarantee a starting place. His lack of competitive rhythm could prompt José Mourinho to exercise caution in this opening day. Tuesday’s session, composed of strength work, technical drills with the ball and physical exercises, illustrates the player’s methodical progression toward full fitness.
Other Real Madrid squad members are not yet available: Raul Asencio, Ferland Mendy and Eder Militao continued their rehabilitation indoors before individual drills on the pitch.
Real Madrid approaches this season with the ambition of ending two years without a major trophy. Under Mourinho’s direction, winning a trophy is the priority objective for a club that intends to reclaim its standing.
