Chiesa set to leave Liverpool in January as Ngumoha reveals Salah's parting advice
Federico Chiesa is reportedly a target for Inter Milan, Lazio and Atalanta ahead of the January window, having yet to feature for Liverpool this season. Teenager Rio Ngumoha has also opened up about a private conversation with Mohamed Salah before the Egyptian's departure.
Federico Chiesa is edging closer to an Anfield exit, with Italian outlet Calciomercato reporting that Inter Milan, Lazio and Atalanta are all pursuing the winger ahead of the January transfer window. The 27-year-old has yet to make a single appearance for Liverpool under new head coach Andoni Iraola this season.
Chiesa joined Liverpool in the summer of 2024 from Juventus but managed just two Premier League starts across two seasons under former manager Arne Slot. Despite being linked with a move away last summer, the Italian insisted at the time that he was committed to the club.
“Right now, at the moment, I am happy here at Liverpool,” Chiesa said earlier this season. “I love the club, I love the fans, I love everything. I am doing the best I can to have a chance here.”
However, an injury has kept him sidelined since the campaign began, and his omission from Liverpool’s 25-man Champions League squad has further underlined how precarious his position at the club has become. With three Serie A heavyweights now circling, a January departure looks increasingly likely.
Elsewhere, teenage winger Rio Ngumoha has spoken about the private advice he received from Mohamed Salah before the Egyptian left Liverpool in the summer. Ngumoha made history in August 2025 when he became the club’s youngest-ever scorer, netting a late winner in a 3-2 victory over Newcastle United at the age of just 16 years and 361 days.
Now 18, Ngumoha has since earned his first senior England cap and made five appearances for the Reds this season. While goals and assists have been harder to come by — he has two goals and one assist across 35 senior appearances — the guidance of a player of Salah’s calibre appears to have left a lasting impression on the youngster.
Liverpool return to Premier League action next Sunday when they host Manchester City at Anfield. Iraola’s side are unbeaten across all competitions so far but have only two league wins to their name, against Ipswich Town and Bournemouth, making the clash with Enzo Maresca’s side a significant early test of where the Reds currently stand.
