Yáñez's 71st-minute strike seals dramatic 3-2 reserve derby win for Real Madrid Castilla
Real Madrid Castilla edged Atlético Madrileño 3-2 in a five-goal reserve-team derby at the Alfredo Di Stéfano, with Yáñez's precise left-footed finish in the 71st minute proving the difference after two penalties, a saved spot-kick, and a late disallowed goal.
Real Madrid Castilla defeated Atlético Madrileño 3-2 at the Alfredo Di Stéfano on 3 October in a reserve-team derby that produced five goals, two penalties, a goalkeeper save, a disallowed goal, and a crossbar strike before the hosts held on for the points. Yáñez’s 71st-minute finish was the decisive moment in a contest that remained in the balance almost until the final whistle.
Castilla made the brighter start when Carvajal opened the scoring in the ninth minute, collecting the ball in midfield, taking on four defenders, and finishing left-footed. The lead looked set to last until half-time, but A. Yaakobishvili levelled deep into first-half added time with a long-range effort that deflected off Mario Rivas and wrong-footed goalkeeper Mestre.
Diego Aguado restored Castilla’s advantage from the penalty spot in the 61st minute after being brought down in the area by I. Kamate. Atlético Madrileño were awarded a penalty of their own shortly afterwards, but Mestre saved D. García’s attempt. The reprieve was short-lived, however, as Koke Mota converted the rebound in the 66th minute to make it 2-2 and force the contest back level.
Yáñez settled the match five minutes later with a precise left-footed finish from an angle, giving Castilla a lead they would not relinquish. The drama continued in stoppage time: Alexis Ciria appeared to add a fourth in the seventh minute of added time, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside, before Álvaro Vega’s header for Atlético Madrileño struck the crossbar in the closing moments.
The result gives Castilla a meaningful victory in a fixture that places two Madrid academy sides in direct competition. The narrow margin — underlined by the late disallowed goal and the crossbar — reflected how evenly matched the two reserve outfits were across the ninety-plus minutes.
