FC Barcelona are preparing to sign Dominik Livakovic to fill the gap left by Wojciech Szczesny’s announced departure, whose contract expires next June. According to Marca, an agreement is already advanced for a transfer worth between €3 and €5 million, to be finalized before September 1st.

The operation, initiated by sporting director Deco, has a particular feature: the Croatian goalkeeper, currently at Fenerbahçe, would be immediately loaned back to them for the rest of the season and would not join the Barcelona squad until 2027. An anticipatory signing, in short, designed to secure a reliable goalkeeper without disrupting the team’s balance in the short term.

While awaiting Livakovic’s arrival, Hansi Flick will rely on two goalkeepers for the upcoming season: Szczesny, whose final months at the club are approaching, and Spaniard Joan Garcia. The two will compete for the starting spot, following Marc-André ter Stegen’s loan to Ajax Amsterdam and Inaki Pena’s sale to Panathinaïkos.

This deal is part of an already busy summer transfer window for Barcelona, who have spent over €160 million this summer with the arrivals of Rodri (€60m), Karim Adeyemi (€22m) and Anthony Gordon (€80m). The club had warned that the transfer window would remain active until the end — the signing of Livakovic is the latest illustration of this.
