Mourinho at Real Madrid excludes Camavinga from six untouchable starters
According to Cadena Ser, José Mourinho has already identified six untouchable players in his starting XI at Real Madrid, and French midfielder Eduardo Camavinga is not among them. The international midfielder, already absent from the 2026 World Cup squad, finds himself relegated to a symbolic role.
Eduardo Camavinga is sinking in Real Madrid’s hierarchy. According to Cadena Ser, José Mourinho — the Merengues’ new head coach — has already identified six untouchable players in his starting XI, and the French international midfielder is not among them.
The six immovable players designated by the Portuguese tactician are Thibaut Courtois in goal, Kylian Mbappé up front, Vinicius Jr and Yan Diomandé on the wings, Jude Bellingham in attacking midfield, and Marc Cucurella — arrived from Chelsea — as left-back.
The rest of the squad is subject to competition. On the right, Denzel Dumfries and Trent Alexander-Arnold will battle for the flank. In central defence, Dean Huijsen and Ibrahima Konaté are expected to start, but Eder Militao, Raul Asencio and Antonio Rüdiger remain waiting in the wings. In midfield, Aurélien Tchouaméni and Federico Valverde are favourites, with Bernardo Silva and Arda Güler in contention.
For Camavinga, Cadena Ser makes no secret of its pessimism: “Camavinga appears to have a more symbolic role, his chances of being a starter diminishing.” A formula that sums up a downward trajectory for the former Rennes player, whose insufficient performances last season had already cost him his place in the France squad for the 2026 World Cup.
