Antony's home burgled during Real Betis's Champions League win over Porto
Antony has revealed his home was broken into while he was on the pitch helping Real Betis beat Porto 3-2 in the Champions League on Wednesday. The former Manchester United winger posted an emotional statement saying the incident left him 'very sad and angry', with particular concern for his family's sense of security.
Antony’s home was burgled while the former Manchester United winger was playing for Real Betis in their 3-2 Champions League comeback victory over Porto at Estadio La Cartuja on Wednesday night. The 26-year-old Brazilian started the match and registered an assist, only to discover on Thursday that his property had been broken into during the game.
In a statement posted on Instagram, Antony described the experience as deeply distressing — not primarily because of the material losses, but because of the effect on his family. “What should have been a beautiful night ended in anger and frustration. My house was robbed,” he wrote. “It’s hard to describe the feeling of having your home broken into. Everything we worked so hard for and poured our hearts into obtaining was taken by someone who has no idea how much hardship we went through to get it.”
The player said the most painful element was the erosion of safety in a place that should feel most protected. “The most infuriating thing is not just the loss of belongings, but the loss of security in a place where we should feel most protected, and seeing the unease in my family’s eyes,” he added.
Despite the ordeal, Antony struck a defiant tone in closing. “What was lost, we can earn back. The effort will not stop, the dream remains, and the determination to win has not diminished in the slightest,” he wrote. “Our greatest wealth has never been the items in the house, but the loved ones who make it a home.”
The result itself was a landmark moment for Betis, who maintained a perfect record upon returning to European football’s top tier for the first time in 21 years. Antony, who joined the Seville club permanently last summer after a loan spell in the second half of the 2024/25 season, has now contributed 23 goals and 16 assists across 82 appearances for the club.
