Antony reveals his home was robbed while he played for Betis in the Champions League
Antony has disclosed that his house was burgled during Real Betis's Champions League win over Porto on Wednesday. The former Manchester United forward shared an emotional statement expressing anger at the break-in and relief that his family were safe.
Former Manchester United forward Antony revealed on Thursday that his home was broken into while he was on the pitch helping Real Betis defeat Porto 3-2 in the Champions League at Estadio La Cartuja on Wednesday night.
The 26-year-old Brazilian, who started and registered an assist in the comeback victory, shared a lengthy statement on Instagram the following day describing the incident as deeply distressing — not for the material loss, but for the fear it had instilled in his family.
“Today, I want to talk about something that made me very sad and angry,” Antony wrote. “What should have been a beautiful night ended in anger and frustration. My house was robbed. It’s hard to describe the feeling of having your home broken into. Everything we worked so hard for and poured our hearts into obtaining was taken by someone who has no idea how much hardship we went through to get it.”
Antony said the most painful element was not the loss of possessions but the erosion of security in a place where his family should feel protected. “The most infuriating thing is not just the loss of belongings, but the loss of security in a place where we should feel most protected, and seeing the unease in my family’s eyes,” he added.
Despite the ordeal, the winger struck a defiant tone, insisting the incident had only reinforced what he values most. “What was lost, we can earn back. The effort will not stop, the dream remains, and the determination to win has not diminished in the slightest,” he wrote. “Our greatest wealth has never been the items in the house, but the loved ones who make it a home.”
The break-in overshadowed what had otherwise been a landmark evening for Betis, who secured six points from their opening two Champions League group-stage matches — their first campaign in European football’s top competition in 21 years.
Antony joined Betis permanently last summer after spending the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan at the Seville club. Across 82 appearances for Betis, he has scored 23 goals and contributed 16 assists.
