Amad ruled out of Manchester United's Premier League opener against Hull with minor injury
Amad Diallo has been left out of Manchester United's squad for their opening Premier League fixture against Hull after picking up a minor injury late last week. Michael Carrick has named Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Patrick Dorgu in attack.
Amad Diallo will play no part in Manchester United’s Premier League season opener against Hull City at the MKM Stadium after picking up a minor injury at the end of last week. The club hope the issue will not keep the 24-year-old sidelined for long.
The Ivorian winger had been expected to start the match and was in strong form for the Ivory Coast at the World Cup before returning to Carrington at the end of July and featuring in pre-season. His absence has forced manager Michael Carrick to reshape his attacking line, with Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Patrick Dorgu named up front.
It remains to be seen whether Mbeumo or Cunha will operate centrally against Hull. Carrick ran a fluid, interchangeable attack last season, and a similar approach appears likely again on the opening day.
The game also marks competitive debuts for two of United’s summer signings. Andrey Santos, who joined from Chelsea in a £50 million deal, and Youri Tielemans, signed for £35 million, both feature from the off as Carrick looks to bed in his new midfield.
United’s summer business is not finished. The club have agreed a deal to sign Carlos Baleba as their third midfield addition of the window. An initial offer of £60 million plus £5 million in add-ons was rejected earlier this week, but an improved bid for the Cameroon international has since been accepted.
