Zidane in the stands to watch his son Luca face Argentina with Algeria
Zinedine Zidane will attend Tuesday's Algeria-Argentina World Cup group match in Kansas City alongside his sons Enzo, Théo and Elyaz. His fourth son, Luca, will be in goal for the Fennecs against the defending champions.
Zinedine Zidane will be in the stands at Kansas City stadium during the night of Tuesday to Wednesday to watch Algeria-Argentina, a World Cup group match. The former France midfielder will attend with three of his sons — Enzo, Théo and Elyaz — to support the fourth, Luca, who will start in goal for the Fennecs.
Just days earlier, Zidane was already in the stands at MetLife Stadium in New York for the Morocco-Brazil clash (1-1), surrounded by the same sons. This trip to Kansas City confirms that the Zidane family is closely following Luca’s progress in this competition, even if it means skipping France’s match against Senegal, scheduled a few hours earlier in New York.
Luca Zidane, born in Marseille, chose to represent Algeria last September after playing in France’s youth categories. Since his first call-up in the autumn against Uganda, he has established himself as the Fennecs’ number one goalkeeper. During the last Africa Cup of Nations, his performances were judged encouraging despite an elimination in the quarter-finals. His performance against the Netherlands in preparation (1-0 victory) convinced manager Vladimir Petkovic to confirm his confidence for the World Cup.
Facing him, Algeria will take on Lionel Messi’s Argentina, the defending champions. A baptism of fire for Luca Zidane on football’s biggest stage, with his father in the stands.
