Santos set for debut as United name 25-man squad to face Wrexham in Helsinki
Manchester United have named a 25-man travelling party for Saturday's pre-season opener against Championship side Wrexham in Helsinki, with new signing Andrey Santos included and in line to make his debut.
Manchester United have named a 25-man squad for their first pre-season fixture of the summer, a trip to Helsinki to face Championship side Wrexham on Saturday, with new signing Andrey Santos among those included just days after completing his move to the club.
Santos, who signed on Monday, could make his debut against Wrexham after being handed an immediate place in the travelling party. The majority of United’s senior players remain unavailable due to World Cup commitments, meaning the squad is a blend of first-team regulars and academy prospects.
Among the senior figures making the trip are Harry Maguire, Patrick Dorgu, Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw, Ayden Heaven, Mason Mount, Joshua Zirkzee and Bryan Mbeumo. Goalkeepers Tom Heaton, Radek Vitek and Dermot Mee are also included, though new signing Karl Darlow has not travelled.
The absence of several first-team players opens the door for a number of academy talents. Jack Fletcher, Tyler Fletcher, Toby Collyer, Shea Lacey and Chido Obi are all part of the squad, while Jaydan Kamason is expected to feature at right-back given United have no senior options available in that position. Ethan Williams could also earn minutes on the left wing for similar reasons.
The Wrexham fixture is the first of six pre-season games United have scheduled this summer, with further matches to follow against Rosenborg, Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Leeds and AC Milan. Their competitive season begins on 22 August with an away trip to newly promoted Hull City.
