Lamine Yamal’s Barcelona home was targeted by burglars in the hours following Spain’s 2-0 victory over France in the World Cup semi-finals on Tuesday, with the teenager away on international duty in the United States.

Yamal played the full match as Spain comfortably dispatched Didier Deschamps’ heavily fancied France side in Texas, with goals from Mikel Oyarzabal and Pedro Porro securing the reigning European champions a place in Sunday’s World Cup final.

According to El Espanol, the attempted break-in at Yamal’s property was thwarted by his security team, who spotted two hooded individuals lurking on a wall near the home and raised the alarm. Police are now investigating the incident.

The 19-year-old is not the first high-profile footballer to be targeted while away on duty. Two of Yamal’s Barcelona team-mates, Pau Cubarsi and Joan Garcia, both had their homes targeted by robbers in February, reflecting a broader pattern of burglaries involving footballers’ properties during away fixtures and international tournaments.

On the pitch, Spain’s attention now turns to Sunday’s final in New Jersey, where they will face either England or Argentina — the two sides contesting the second semi-final. Luis de la Fuente’s side beat England in the Euro 2024 final and could face Thomas Tuchel’s team again, while Argentina arrive as reigning world champions, bidding to become only the third nation in history to win back-to-back World Cups, joining Italy and Brazil.
