Yadong Song stuns Umar Nurmagomedov with brutal uppercut KO to claim UFC Shanghai main event

Yadong Song pulled off a stunning upset at UFC Shanghai on 29 August 2026, knocking out Umar Nurmagomedov in the second round to claim the main event and a $100,000 performance bonus. The Chinese fighter, known as the “Kung Fu Kid”, appeared to be losing the opening round before landing a brutal right uppercut behind Nurmagomedov’s ear and following up with punches and hammerfists to seal the finish.

The victory was a significant one for Song, a Team Alpha Male associate who overcame what many expected to be a dominant performance from the Dagestani fighter. UFC senior vice president and head of Asia Kevin Chang announced the bonus winners following the event, which marked the promotion’s third visit to Shanghai and featured a total of 10 finishes across the card.

Bilal Hasan earned a performance bonus of his own after stopping fellow debutant Nilson Rojas in the second round. Hasan controlled the fight throughout before landing a right hand that floored Rojas, then finished with a standing combination that prompted the referee to step in, handing “The IndoNinja” his first win inside the UFC.

Fight of the night honours went to Ce Liu and Levi Rodrigues for their featherweight clash. Liu, nicknamed “The Oriental Dragon”, took the win via first-round knockout at 4:26 after both fighters traded heavy exchanges from the opening bell. A fierce right hook from the Chinese fighter eventually floored Rodrigues and ended the contest, earning both men the $100,000 bonus.
